About our Texting Helpline

SextEd is Montreal’s free, confidential texting helpline for questions about sexual health or dating. Just text a question to 514 700-4411 and you’ll get an answer within 24 hours!

Every answer we send also has a link to a useful website, like one of our FAQs. These can help you learn more about your question and get details from other websites you can trust. They also let you find helpful places in Montreal, like youth groups or STI testing clinics.

We do everything we can to make sure every answer we send doesn’t assume or judge, so you can get the information that you need without a lecture.

SextEd is free?

Yup! There are no extra fees for using SextEd. Your service might charge for the text as if it was any other Montreal number, but we won’t charge any extra!

Is it accurate?

Our texting helpline is dedicated to giving accurate information so you can make your own decisions about sexual health and relationships. All of our answers are reviewed by people with years of experience in sex ed. Our volunteers also get hours of training to learn how to make sure everything’s right. However, we are not medical professionals and our answers shouldn’t replace seeing a doctor or other healthcare provider.

How is the texting helpline confidential?

SextEd will never ask for your name and our team of volunteers won’t even see your phone number. When you text in, our team sees something like “Texter #69.” In emergency situations, we can access your number, but these are very rare. We also do all we can to keep your questions secure and private and you can always text us or read our terms and conditions if you want to know more about how we keep things confidential.

Disclaimer

SextEd is run by people with years of experience in sex ed and a team of volunteers. We do a lot to make sure everything we say is accurate, but we’re not doctors and what we say shouldn’t replace seeing a doctor or other healthcare provider.

We’re not an emergency line and usually can’t answer right away. But, we aim to answer any questions within 24 hours.  If you need an answer now, you can check out our FAQs or call a nurse at Info Santé at 8-1-1. You can also talk to someone at Tel-Jeunes: 1-800-263-2266. Both are open 24/7.

The SextEd number is only for texting and doesn’t go to a phone if you call. Anyone who calls the number won’t hear the name SextEd. They’ll just get a message that the number isn’t connected for phone calls.

Who runs SextEd?

SextEd is run by a team of dedicated volunteers and people with years of experience in sexual health. It’s one of many programs run by the Education for Prevention department at ACCM.
